Happy Birthday Chrissy and Back to School.

Someone very special had a birthday today.  It's hard to surprise someone that lives 2100 miles away, but I think it happened.  Earlier in the week some cookies were mailed to Chrissy's house to throw her off the cookie trail.

A few days later another package of cookies was sent to Chrissy's best friend to take to work.  And today in one of their meetings Chrissy got some more cookies.  Had to make some with her new age because she kept thinking she was only 28.

Other cookies that went out this week were some back to school cookies that my mom is taking to her coworkers.  My mom has taught school forever and this is her last year, she's going to retire at the end of this school year.  So a little something fun for her coworkers.
All the school essentials.  Apple for the teacher, Pencils, Paper, and Chalkboards ( although I don't think schools have real chalk boards anymore.)

They were packaged in bags and tied with ribbon.

Jeff's 40th Birthday

When my friend Nick contacted me about doing some cookies for Jeff's 40th Birthday I was so excited about his ideas I couldn't wait to do these cookies.  I became a little rushed when a new little baby was born the weekend I had planned to do the cookies, but I was able to get some new baby lovin' in and make the cookies.

Jeff is a lover of many things and we share a love of Diet Coke and Rum, specifically Sailor Jerry's.  So being able to make some Diet Coke cookies made my heart smile.

Another of Jeff's loves is Alfred Hitchcock.  I couldn't decide between the traditional silhouette or the silhouette he drew of himself, so a few of each went on the platter.

Jeff also loves his vinyl albums.  There always seems to be a record album out when you go to visit.

And we could not forget his love for his puppies.

And I don't really know if Jeff loves the fact his a diabetic, but we thought some shots needed to be at the party.
The cookies all ready for the party.
Jeff I hope that your next 40 are just as good or better than the first.  Happy Birthday!

MONSTER TRUCKS!!

My 5 year old son is currently obsessed with monster trucks. So it was no surprise when he requested a monster truck cake for his birthday. In addition to a cake we decided it would be fun to make cookies for favors. I was a little nervous to do this so the royal icing master Amy Norris made these amazing cookies.

The birthday boy really wanted to help. So we set him up with a little cookie decorating station and let him go to town. He was in heaven.
I love the tongue action.

Once the cookies were complete it was on to the cake. Hayden wanted a stadium complete with jumps and crash cars. He was very specific with the positioning of the items on the cake as well as the trucks we used. Here is the finished product.
The boys LOVED it!!!

So much fun!!

Happy Birthday Hayden!!

Brandi Carlile Cookies

So do you ever get a crazy idea?  I got one a few weeks ago, I actually originally had the idea back in December, but there wasn't enough time to fully carry out the plan so it got put on the back burner.  What is the crazy idea you ask?  Well my idea was to make cookies that represented Brandi Carlile, her band, and her charities, then try to get the cookies delivered to her at a concert.  I'm happy to report that the cookies were made, delivered directly to Phil (one of her twin guitarists), then this happened.

Thats right, Brandi Carlile instagrammed the cookies!  When I saw this on my phone while waiting in line for the concert, I couldn't speak.  I was so happy that she liked the cookies enough to post about them.  Super high for the rest of the night.  After the concert we decided to wait by the busses to see if we could meet the band and get a picture.  Phil came out first and recognized me as the one that gave the cookies.  His brother Tim came out a little bit after and I told him I made the cookies, he said "Oh my God"  and said they had taken so many pictures of them.  After a little while longer Brandi came out, and her tour manager, Rachel said no pictures.  I told her I was the one that made the cookies, and she thanked me, and told me I was super talented.  Pretty crazy to have someone you think is amazing tell you that you are talented.  She said they didn't have time for pictures, and we told her that we were also going to a show the next night, she then gave us Rachel's number and said we could have a photo session the next day.

Needless to say I was wide awake at 2:45 as we walked back to our car.  I just kept looking at the phone, and rethinking of the conversation I just had with Brandi Carlile.

The next day, Rachel let us know that we could come back to the dressing room after the show.  She said it would be a real quick picture, but when we got back there, Brandi was quite chatty.  She said they had all eaten some of the cookies and they tasted as good as they looked.  She also said her wife was impressed with the charity ones.

And I guess since this is a cookie blog I should show you some of the cookies.

Flowers and Butterflies

I am a little late getting this post up, you know life gets in the way. A good friend of mine asked us to make a cake and some cookies for her daughters 1st birthday. The theme was Flowers and Butterflies. The number of guests expected reached to 100+ plus so we made 100 cookies and a 2 tier cake as well as a smash cake for the birthday girl.

This was the 1st cake we had done that I was going to be at the party to see the reaction. Needless to say I was stressed. After a slight break down this is what we came up with.

The cake was buttercream with gumpaste decorations. I really like the butterfly sitting on top of the cake. Here is a better view of it.

Here are the cookies that match the cake.

Although this was the most stressed I have been the end result was one of my favorites and the birthday girl loved it!!
